What is HHC?

HHC, an abbreviation for hexahydrocannabinol, is a hydrogenated form of THC naturally present in varieties of cannabis family members. HHC is considered semi-synthetic because its composition is a `form of THC. It’s reportedly roughly 70-80% the strength of THC, deeming it significantly more potent than Delta-8 THC and Delta-10 THC.

Mild-to-moderate doses of HHC induce a traditional euphoria comparable to THC but with enhanced relaxing and sedative qualities akin to Delta 8 gummies, Delta 8 vapes, and more. It’s also vital to choose a vendor who lab tests their products.

As it’s well known that cannabis plants, especially marijuana, can fail a drug test – this has led HHC to gain popularity revolving around the “idea” it won’t appear on drug tests. However, this is not proven and is based on individual experiences. Therefore, it’s not recommended to partake in HHC carts or gummies if potentially facing a drug test.

HHC’s federal legality is questionable, and its safety is still being researched is unknown. However, a few CBD companies manufacture premium, trusted, and wide range of HHC products in the United States.

Is HHC natural, or is HHC synthetic?

HHC is considered both a naturally occurring and semi-synthetic cannabinoid, depending on where it’s sourced and how it’s manufactured. HHC appears naturally in cannabis plants but in small quantities. Small concentrations of HHC, alongside Delta 8 THC and Delta 10 THC, occur when THC oxidizes into CBN over a long period. HHC does occur naturally, but since it’s trace amounts, most HHC is produced in a lab. Therefore, requiring lab tests before consuming these products is essential.

CBN is a cannabinoid that exists in aged cannabis. Due to the natural concentration of HHC in cannabis being scarce in quantity, producers cannot viably make HHC products from it. The solution has led to the research to allow them to hydrogenate THC.

Hydrogenation of THC to HHC is not an extremely complex process. Producers take THC, chemically saturate it with hydrogen atoms, expose it to a nickel or zinc catalyst, and finally convert it into HHC. Including these makes HHC more stable than THC with higher heat, oxygen, and UV resistance.  Due to hydrogenation being a chemical process to alter THC’s natural molecular weight and geometry, HHC is considered semi-synthetic.

HHC Cannabinoid Potency and HHC Effects

Early reports state that HHC produces a high comparable to THC but with the less anxious, relaxing, and pain-relieving benefits many consumers rely on with Delta-8 THC, Delta-9 THC, Delta 10 THC, and THC-O acetate gummies and carts (another emerging, powerful and unique cannabinoid.)

Due to the range of carbons on its alkyl side chain, the science that creates HHC euphoric effects is relative to Delta 9, Delta 8, Delta 10, and THC-O. These popular, beneficial cannabinoids have five-carbon side chains, allowing them to bind to your cannabinoid receptors with a significantly powerful efficiency level.

HHC products, such as HHC carts, cause a comparable high to THC.  Very few trusted manufacturers currently provide HHC products, the most popular being HHC carts for vaping, which have been sold out in many places until recently.  Our friends at Good CBD offer TreeTop, a top-quality HHC cartridge manufacturer.  TreeTop is also very popular, releasing one of the best disposable Delta 10 THC cartridges on the market.

You can buy Delta 10 carts online at Injoy Extract’s, our favorite Delta 8, 9, 10, CBD, and every vintage and new THC manufacturer and provider.

Mild-to-moderate doses of HHC have been reported to cause powerful and enjoyable euphoria, visual distortions, cognitive impairment, and bodily sensations. Whether these effects are overwhelming is unclear.

However, considering that HHC is approximately 70-80% the potency of THC, we believe higher than recommended doses could generate an intense and potentially uncomfortable euphoric experience.

HHC Cannabinoid Potency and Effects

The benefits of HHC are still vastly unknown. A lack of research exists identifying how HHC could benefit you, though early research and consumer reports suggest it has pain-relieving, anxiety, and various other benefits.

Based on consumer reports and experience, the benefits of HHC could be extremely similar to THC benefits due to their molecular similarity and affinity to the body’s cannabinoid receptors.

Other potential benefits HHC (hexahydrocannabinol) include:

  • Appetite Stimulation
  • Anxiety Suppression
  • Depression Relief
  • Sleep
  • Pain Relief
  • Inflammation Relief

 HHC Compared to THC

HHC and THC share almost a carbon copy of a molecular structure. The key differences are that HHC has two extra hydrogenated carbons, and THC has a missing ester atom and carbon bond.

The slight variations in molecular composition make HHC a significantly more stable compound than THC, with enhanced resistance to heat and UV. As a result, HHC carts and other products have a longer shelf life.

HHC vs. CBN: What’s the Difference?

HHC and CBN are polar opposites in terms of effects and benefits, despite both cannabinoids created through THC degradation and decomposition.

However, HHC is essentially THC, with its double bonds replaced by hydrogen atoms.  CBN, on the other hand, enjoys two additional double bonds on its molecular structure.

HHC is more efficient at binding to CB1 receptors, which causes a powerful, euphoric “high” among consumers. CBN has a much weaker binding affinity with CB1 receptors, causing this extraordinary cannabinoid to produce very little intoxication, packed with medicinal benefits.

CBN, CBG gummies, and CBD products, including CBD for pets, will continue to gain popularity and mainstream acceptance.

Will HHC Pass Drug Test?

It’s uncertain whether HHC has a positive result on a drug test.  Drug tests are designed to discover THC-COOH, a primary metabolite of THC present in your body after THC consumption.

Initial research suggests that HHC metabolizes into 8alpha-hydroxy-HHC and 8beta-hydroxy-HHC, each similar to THC-COOH. This could cause an HHC drug test to trigger a positive for THC, as it’s still unknown.

Does the fashion in which HHC metabolites are similar to THC mean it’s detectable via drug tests?  No conclusive studies exist to show if HHC carts and other products can be detected by drug screenings. HHC also has the potential to trigger a false positive.

HHC cartridges and other forms may contain residual THC post-chemical hydrogenation, which could be present in your urine if in large enough quantity. If your UA results are above 50 nanograms per milliliter of THC-COOH after metabolization, you’re taking a chance with HHC passing a drug test.

For this reason, we highly recommend any individual with an upcoming drug test should refrain from using HHC cannabinoid products in all forms, including the HHC carts for vaping and edibles. It’s much safer and foolproof to wait and remain cautious, thus preventing any negative outcomes!  Then, enjoy all the fun you can!

Possible HHC Side Effects Which May Be Uncomfortable?

Again, HHC’s short and long-term side effects are largely unknown. Consumers have had no reports of severe or life-threatening effects from partaking in HHC cartridges and other HHC products.

However, considering HHC’s cannabinoid potency and benefits as reported as similar to THC, it’s under the assumption by many that the side effects are similar to those some experience from traditional THC. The uncomfortable effects of HHC are not widely reported. They may include:

  • Anxiety
  • Paranoia
  • Sleep disruption
  • Reduced blood pressure
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Increased appetite
  • Dry mouth
  • Nausea

HHC Carts for Sale?  What is HHC Legal Status?

Natural HHC derived from hemp containing no higher than 0.3% THC (Delta 9) is federally legal according to the Agriculture Improvement Act (2018 Farm Bill). The Agriculture Improvement Act legalized hemp and hemp-derived compounds across the US.

Although not listed in the United States Controlled Substance Act (CSA), HHC, converted from THC through chemical hydrogenation, could be considered a synthetically derived substance under the Federal Analog Act (FAA), 21 U.S.C. § 813.

If chemically produced HHC is considered synthetically derived according to federal law in the future, then the use, possession, sale, distribution, and production of HHC products could be illegal.

As always, it’s vital to research local laws before purchasing HHC carts or any other product you lack sufficient knowledge regarding consumption and its effects.

CBD Benefits Published Studies

In October 2021, doctors in the U.K. released an article documenting an elderly woman in her 80s diagnosed with lung cancer. The case, published in BMJ Case Reports, details her medical history, including high blood pressure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and osteoarthritis.

The woman admitted to smoking over one pack of cigarettes a week before and after her diagnosis. By June and July of 2018, the doctors tested her using a PET scan, MRI, CT scan, and biopsy. They diagnosed her with Stage IIB of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). By September 2019, the chest CT scan was repeated, showing 2 new nodules in the upper right lobe and left apex. She declined surgery to remove the lobe because of risks and also declined radiofrequency ablation due to the side effects suffered by her late husband from radiation therapy.

By this time, she admitted to starting CBD oil treatment with 0.5 ML 3x per day orally, then twice daily, after being diagnosed. The CBD oil supplier advised her not to take the CBD oil with a hot drink or food to avoid feeling stoned, and she also reported a reduction in appetite with CBD oil. Despite that, she didn’t change her lifestyle or diet and even smoked a pack of cigarettes a week.

“We were definitely not expecting to see such a striking tumor regression with no conventional cancer treatments and no other health or lifestyle changes….Multiple studies so far in animal models have shown conflicting results, and with some cases reducing cancer cell growth and others finding an accelerating growth of cancer cells,” commented lead author Dr. Kah Ling Liew.

Dr. Jack Jacoub, a medical director at the MemorialCare Cancer Institute at Orange Coast Medical Center and a medical oncologist, told Medical News Today, “It’s hypothesis-provoking, and additional research is needed before it could become a recommended treatment option for patients with cancer. From the strength of a scientific evidence standpoint, a case report is about the weakest strength, and so you have to consider what you’re reading in that context.”

Buying HHC Carts, HHC Edibles Online?

If you’re seeking out HHC, purchasing from a reputable online manufacturer is crucial. to get your hands on HHC, looking for an online seller is your best bet. Few HHC products are in statewide retail stores, and their production is questionable. We suggest choosing a vendor with a strong reputation currently carrying HHC products (it’s still early); our recommendation is GoodCBD.com for anyone looking for HHC carts, CBG gummies, and the AiroPro or AiroSport batteries.

As the only authorized online vendor of AiroPro batteries, they are a prime choice for your HHC vape cartridge and battery.

Semi-synthetic cannabinoids aren’t harmful or dangerous, per se. However, the production method is extremely important.  We expect to see HHC gain popularity, although the future remains in the hands of responsible consumption.  Start low; go slow with all your experiments.
